The National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS), Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) and Weixin Pay have launched an expanded cross-border QR code payment service between Vietnam and China. Weixin Pay is the third Chinese payment platform to complete cross-border QR payment integration with NAPAS, enabling its users to scan VietQRGlobal codes and make payments at merchants across Vietnam.
Transactions will be processed through the connectivity infrastructure between NAPAS and Weixin Pay, together with BIDV’s settlement system. The service will allow Weixin Pay users to make QR payments at retail outlets, restaurants, hotels, accommodation providers and tourist attractions across Vietnam. The service is expected to benefit more than 1 billion Weixin Pay users.
The initiative is intended to strengthen the digital payment infrastructure connecting Vietnam and China and support cross-border trade, investment and tourism. In the first six months of 2026, Vietnam received approximately 12.3 million international visitors, including around 2.7 million Chinese visitors, who accounted for approximately 22 per cent of total international arrivals.
NAPAS, Weixin Pay and BIDV are also studying a reverse payment service that would allow Vietnamese banking application and e-wallet users to make QR code payments in China. The partners aim to expand the acceptance network, improve service quality and security, and complete a comprehensive cross-border QR payment ecosystem between the two countries.
