Choa Chu Kang Waterworks (CCKWW), a water treatment plant in SIngapore will undergo redevelopment works starting 2022. The new facility will be completed in 2026. Binnies Singapore Private Limited, an engineering design and consultation firm, was awarded a tender worth SDG28.8 million to provide engineering services for the project. Under the terms of the contract, Binnies Singapore is responsible for the detailed design, construction management, and commissioning of the CCKWW rebuilding project over the next five years.

New water treatment methods and equipment, such as high-rate clarifiers and an advanced membrane filtering system, will be installed at the plant, replacing existing equipment and structures built before 1981. Old buildings in the waterworks site built before 1981 will be replaced as part of the latest redevelopment to make space for new ones. Old equipment will be replaced, and the plant will be outfitted with smart features. The treatment plant, once completed, will be fully integrated and automated.

The new plant will have features like autonomous technologies that will reduce requirement for labour-intensive jobs like chemical preparation for the water treatment process. It will also be equipped with online sensors that will allow it to monitor and anticipate the status and performance of equipment like pump sets in real time. To power the plant’s operational needs and decrease its carbon impact, new rooftop solar panels will be added to the current 1 MWp system.

The redevelopment comes after CCKWW had a SGD162 million renovation in 2019. The upcoming reconstruction will not affect parts of CCKWW that were updated in 2019.
