AboitizPower-backed mobility startup Voltai is targeting around 1,000 battery-swapping stations over the medium term as it prepares to expand its electric motorcycle business beyond Metro Manila. The company plans to begin network expansion in 2027, first increasing coverage across Metro Manila before expanding to areas north and south of the capital, with Cebu and Davao also targeted in the longer term.
Voltai currently operates 15 battery-swapping stations at Cleanfuel sites across Metro Manila. The network was launched in October 2025 and is currently described by the company as the Philippines’ largest two-wheeler EV battery-swapping network.
The battery-swapping system enables riders to exchange depleted batteries for fully charged units, reducing vehicle downtime compared with conventional charging. Voltai provides electric motorcycles, swapping stations, fleet-management software, a rider application and after-sales support through a fixed-fee lease model targeting logistics, food and beverage delivery and ride-hailing operators.
During the first half of 2026, Voltai conducted pilot programmes with logistics and delivery companies, including JRS Express, as well as ride-hailing service Xpress. The company said most initial pilot partners are continuing into commercial agreements. Pilot fleet operators have recorded reported savings of 20 per cent to 60 per cent under the model.
Voltai’s two-battery electric motorcycle has a range of up to 140 km, a maximum speed of around 80 km/hr and a carrying capacity of 200 kg. Its fleet-management platform provides real-time information on vehicle locations, trips, distance travelled and estimated tailpipe emissions avoided.
Voltai operates under 1882 Energy Ventures, AboitizPower’s startup and innovation arm focused on energy and mobility solutions. The planned expansion would position battery-swapping infrastructure as a potential complement to conventional EV charging networks, particularly for high-utilisation commercial motorcycles where minimising charging downtime is important.
