VinBus, the public transport provider in Hanoi, has launched contactless bank card payments across its bus services in Vietnam. Under a plan drawn by the Government of Vietnam and the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), bank cards are planned to replace existing magnetic cards across the country’s public transport systems.

Passengers can use cards issued by seven commercial banks, including Tien Phong Commercial Joint Stock Bank (TPBank), Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV), Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank), Saigon-Hanoi Bank (SHB), Viet Capital Bank, VietBank, and Southeast Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SeABank) to buy Vinbus tickets. More cards are expected to be issued by other banks in future.

After Hanoi, the service is expected to be provided in other cities, including Da Nang and HCM City, where electric buses will be available.
