Viettel has launched the world’s first commercial Open RAN (O-RAN) 5G network using Qualcomm’s 5G RAN platforms, aiming to expand across Vietnam with 300 sites in early 2025. Viettel’s O-RAN deployment will allow broader vendor participation in 5G infrastructure. This collaboration aligns with Vietnam’s national Make in Vietnam strategy, positioning the country as a leader in telecom technology and fostering independence from traditional telecom providers.
