A battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Vietnam has received a grant of approximately USD3 million from the United States Embassy in Ho Chi Minh City. The grant will be used to finance construction works on the 15 MW BESS project which will be integrated into a utility-scale 50 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Vietnam’s Khanh Hoa Province.

The grant comes after the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) financed a feasibility study by Vietnam Electricity, a state-owned power provider, to assess the viability of deploying  advanced energy storage technology in the country.
