The Government of Vietnam is preparing to develop the Can Tho 2 Bridge, a major road-and-rail crossing over the Hau River, with a total investment estimated at more than USD1.1 billion. The project is being reviewed by the Ministry of Construction, with construction expected to begin in late 2026 and completion targeted within five years.

According to the My Thuan Project Management Board, Can Tho 2 is designed as a combined road–rail bridge that will integrate with the future Ho Chi Minh City–Can Tho railway. The bridge forms part of a 17.5 km corridor running from the Cha Va interchange in Vinh Long Province to the IC2 interchange in Can Tho, directly connecting to the HCMC–Ca Mau expressway.

The project features a cable-stayed main span exceeding 1 km in length, located around 4.5 km downstream of the existing Can Tho Bridge. It will have six traffic lanes, a design speed of 100 km/hr, and a navigation clearance of 300 m, along with approach roads equipped with emergency lanes. Total investment is estimated at VND29.525 trillion (about USD1.12 billion), covering construction, equipment, project management, consulting, and land clearance.

Can Tho 2 will link to Vietnam’s North–South expressway network. The bridge will connect multiple Mekong Delta corridors, including Chau Doc–Can Tho–Soc Trang and Ha Tien–Rach Gia–Bac Lieu, helping to ease congestion on National Highway 1, strengthen regional logistics, and support economic and social development across the delta.
