The Vietnam Railway Administration has submitted a draft proposal to the Ministry of Transport for the construction of a 38.4 km standard gauge suburban line in order to serve the western districts of Hanoi. The double-track line that will link Van Cao in the central district of Ba Dinh and Thach Binh in Thach That will speed of up to 100 km per hour; the journey time between stations will be about 30 minutes. The line will serve new residential developments, as well as the National Convention Centre, the National Stadium, and the National Administrative Area. The construction works for the project, which are expected to cost about $2.87 billion, will be divided into two phases; their targeted completion dates are 2019 and 2024, respectively.
