The Government of Malaysia has announced that the first phase of a 2,000 MW offshore wind project connecting Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore is expected to be completed by 2034. The 700 MW of the capacity will supply Malaysia’s domestic demand, while the remaining 1,300 MW will be exported to Singapore.
The project aims to enhance regional energy cooperation and bolster clean power trade across Southeast Asia. The second phase will involve extending transmission infrastructure northward from Vietnam to Peninsular Malaysia via Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand, supporting future interconnection and energy diversification goals. This subsequent stage will be evaluated based on Malaysia’s energy needs and economic feasibility after the completion of the first phase.
