Vietnam has begun the construction of its longest sea bridge linking Haiphong City to Lach Huyen port. The 5.4 km Tan Vu–Lach Huyen bridge, with a total width of 16 metres, will have four lanes. The construction cost is estimated at 11.85 trillion dong. Of this amount, 10.1 trillion dong will be funded by Japan, with the remainder provided by the Vietnam government. A consortium, comprising Japan’s Sumitomo Mitsui Construction, Vietnam’s Truong Son Construction Corporation, and Civil Engineering Construction Corporation No. 4, has secured the construction contract of the bridge and approach roads. The bridge, expected to be completed in February 2017, will bode well for the city’s industrial and tourism sectors.
