The Vietnam government has approved a 500 kV cross-border project that will link the power grids of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. The high voltage link, estimated to cost $95.4 million, will help to transfer 80 per cent of the hydropower generated in Laos’s southern region and Cambodia’s north-eastern region to Vietnam. The 500 kV line will run from Hatsan in Laos to Pleiku in Vietnam. The link is expected to provide quality and reliable electricity to Vietnam, especially the Central Highlands region. Of the total cost of the project, ADB has extended a loan of $79.2 million from its ODA fund.
