US-based GE has won the contract to supply engines for 787 Dreamliners owned by Vietnam Airlines. The contract that is expected to be signed this month is worth 21,091.7 billion dong. The other bidder was Rolls Royce Holdings Plc. In 2012, Vietnam Airlines had announced that it would start receiving 19 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners from 2015. It also plans to induct Airbus A320neo and A350 aircraft to expand its fleet to 170 airlines. Meanwhile, VietJet Aviation Joint Stock Company has signed an agreement to procure 92 A320 aircraft from Airbus at an estimated cost of 181,389 billion dong. Deliveries will begin in 2014 and will be spread over a 10-year period.
