Vientiane’s Sithong Road, a key thoroughfare linking Route 13 North and ASEAN Road, is undergoing a full upgrade and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025 in the Lao PDR. The renovation project covers a 1,700-meter stretch from Nongnieo to Dongnathong traffic junctions and involves replacing the existing asphalt with reinforced concrete for improved durability.
Construction officially began in early May 2025, with teams working to complete the project within six months. The 10-meter-wide road has been plagued by potholes and water damage, particularly during rainy seasons. Previous partial repairs in 2024 addressed the worst sections, but full reconstruction is now underway to resolve remaining issues. Authorities have urged motorists to use alternative routes during the works to minimise congestion.
