The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched the five-year Better Access and Connectivity (BEACON) project in the Philippines. The PHP1.65 billion project is expected to boost development of information and communications technology (ICT) and help increase digital connectivity in the Philippines.

The BEACON initiative will help the Philippines improve its ICT and logistics infrastructure, as well as its regulatory, business, and innovation environments and cybersecurity. Under the BEACON project, USAID will aid the government in expanding automation and digitisation coverage, as well as supporting community networks to improve low-cost internet access for underserved communities in the Philippines.

The agency has also launched a five-year climate resiliency project in the Philippines called the Climate Resilient Cities (CRC) project. The PHP750 million project will intend to increase cities’ access to climate financing and help them mitigate the effects of climate change.
