Malaysia-based telecom operator U Mobile has announced the termination of its RAN sharing agreement with rival telecom operator Maxis. U Mobile had signed a 10-year 3G RAN sharing agreement with Maxis in October 2011. However, the operator has now decided to terminate the contract as it wants to focus on expanding its own network, especially with the additional 2×15 MHz of spectrum in the 1800 MHz band and 2×5 MHz of spectrum in the 900 MHz band that was awarded to it by the government in 2016. The additional spectrum in the 1800 MHz and 900 MHz bands was made available on April 1, 2017 and July 1, 2017 respectively. According to U Mobile, the termination process will be completed by December 2018.
