MRCB George Kent Sdn Bhd, Malaysia’s light rail transit’s Line 3 (LRT3) main contractor, has awarded TUV SUD an Overall Independent Safety Assessment (O-ISA) contract.

The contract includes the assessment of the LRT3 core subsystems such as track-works and power rail, light rail vehicle, depot equipment and maintenance vehicles, signalling and train control system power supply, and automatic fare collection. The scope also comprises the evaluation of work completed during all project phases, including manufacturing, design, installation, testing and commissioning (T&C), fault-free operation (FFR), and trial running.

The LRT3 will span 37 km from Bandar Utama to Johan Setia and have 20 stations, including two interchange stations and five provisional stations. The line will be designed and operated as a Grade-of-Automation 4 (GoA4) driverless rapid transit system. The line is expected to commence operations in 2024.
