Testing has started on a new cross-border railway line between Laos and Thailand. The trials are being conducted by the Lao National Railway State Enterprise and the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and the initial phase covers the section from Thanaleng railway station to Vientiane Khamsavath station in Laos.
The next testing phase will extend from Udon Thani railway station and Nong Khai station in Thailand to Thanaleng railway station and Khamsavath station in Laos. Construction of the Laos-Thailand Railway Project began in 2013, aiming for completion by the end of 2021. However, delays in the Khamsavath station project led to its completion in 2023.
