The Thuan An sea-crossing bridge has officially opened to traffic in Hue, Vietnam. Spanning approximately 2.36 km, it is now the longest sea-crossing bridge in the region and a key component of the city’s coastal road network.
The project, which began construction in March 2022, forms part of a wider 7.8 km corridor linking National Highways 49A and 49B. Phase 1 involved an investment of around VND2.4 trillion ($94 million), including major works on both the bridge and a 5.3 km connecting road section. While initially scheduled for completion in 2025, delays in land clearance extended the timeline.
The new bridge is expected to significantly improve coastal connectivity, reduce congestion on existing routes, and support the development of tourism, logistics and marine-based economic activities in the region. By strengthening links across the Tam Giang–Cau Hai lagoon area, the project also enhances access between urban and coastal zones.
