Three mining firms from the Philippines – Coral Bay Nickel Corporation, Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation and Agata Mining ventures – won awards at the ASEAN Mineral Awards (AMA) 2019. While the Coral Bay Nickel Corporation received the Best Practices award in the Metallic Mineral Processing category, Rio Tuba Nickel Mining and Agata Mining Ventures were named runners-up in the Metallic Mineral Mining and Metallic Mineral Distribution categories respectively.
The AMA initiative was started in 2017 to recognise best practices in sustainable mineral mining, processing and distribution among ASEAN’s member countries. The 2019 award ceremony was held on December 11-13 in Bangkok, Thailand. The Philippines’ entries were chosen and screened by the Philippine Asean Mineral Awards Committee comprising technical experts from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau.
