Three companies have expressed interest in participating in the third round of bidding for the privatisation of the 650 MW Malaya thermal power plant and its land in Pililla, Rizal. The state-run Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM) held a pre-bid conference as part of the privatisation process. Three bidders, namely, Ayala-controlled AC Energy, Inc., Panasia Energy, Inc. and Denki Power, sent their representations. The Malaya power plant is currently operational as a must-run unit (MRU) by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines. However, according to a direction by the Department of Energy, the power plant will no longer be required to run as an MRU once privatised. PSALM has set April 15, 2020 as the bid opening date. It had earlier held two unsuccessful rounds of public bidding in 2019.
