The Philippines’ Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has received the Trailblazer Award of the Institute of Solidarity in Asia. The DPWH achieved the highest performance report rating and bested all other national government partner agencies which are members of Millennium Challenge Corporation. These agencies had presented their performance report during the biannual Public Governance Forum held recently.

The DPWH garnered a rating of 9.08 out of 10 for its report presented by Secretary R.L. Singson before a group of panelists, headed by R.C. Drilon of the Institute of Solidarity in Asia.

In its report, the DPWH highlighted its progress in areas such as paving and upgrading national roads; constructing permanent bridges; and implementing flood control projects on major river basins. Moreover, the DPWH, continuing with its transformation into a results-based government agency, has also been focusing on delivering the right infrastructure needed to sustain the country’s economic development.

The Trailblazer Award is given to participating agencies or units in the public service, based on the significance of the progress achieved in terms of initiatives undertaken by these agencies as well as a scorecard. In 2012, the DPWH received the Governance Excellence Seal – the highest rating among participating government agencies – for its outstanding progress under its good governance programme and strong commitment to reform in the Philippines public sector.
