The Pacific Northwest Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) export plant, backed by the Malaysia-based oil and gas company Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), has been granted a provincial environmental permit by the British Columbia government. The permit has come just before the deadline (end-2014) set by Petronas for deciding on whether to build a liquefaction plant in the province. In order to proceed with the Pacific Northwest LNG export plant, Petronas still needs to get permits from other levels of government, including an environmental assessment from the federal government. Petronas has stated that the cost of the project has been revised upwards to C$36 billion.
