The government is likely to award the PhP 10 billion contract for the Mactan-Cebu International Airport project in September 2013. The project involves the construction of a new passenger terminal; the rehabilitation and expansion of the existing terminal; and the operation, maintenance, and management of the terminals. The Department of Transportation and Communications and the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority have initiated the process by inviting pre-qualification bids for the project. Several companies, including the diversified conglomerate San Miguel Corporation, the consortium of Ayala Corporation and Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc., as well as Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, have expressed interest in the airport project.
