Thales has secured a contract from Bangkok Expressway Metro Public Company Limited and Karnchang Public Company Limited in Thailand to provide the automatic fare collection (AFC) system for two Blue Line extensions of the Bangkok metro. The two extensions are scheduled to open in March 2020. Thales will supply the ticketing solution on 19 new stations of the extension and expand AFC capacity on the 18 stations of the existing line. The two extensions will together span 25.8 km and are expected to increase ridership by 230,000 passengers. While one extension will span 11.9 km from Tao Poon south to Tha Phra, the other will span 13.9 km from Hua Lamphong to Lak Song via Tha Phra.
