The Thaketa power plant will install gas turbines manufactured by General Electric (GE) to meet Myanmar’s electricity demand. Electric power consumption in Myanmar has increased by 200 per cent in the last 10 years and is expected to increase further by 15 per cent annually in the coming years. The plant is being built and will be operated by SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Corporation, which awarded GE the contract to supply gas turbines. The power plant is expected to commence operations in 2018 and will produce 106 MW of electricity.
