Thailand-based PTT is reviewing the volume of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to be imported in 2014 due to lower-than-expected domestic demand. Thailand’s LNG demand from the electricity sector is likely to decline in 2014, as the country’s revised economic growth estimate for the year has dipped from 5 per cent to 4 per cent. Moreover, the LNG demand for 2014 was estimated at 3 mt, 50 per cent higher than the projected 2 mt in 2013. However, actual LNG imports in 2013 amounted to less than 2 mt; hence, PTT has good reason to revise the volume of LNG imports for 2014.
