The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is moving forward with its smart city plan, announcing that the covered walkway along South Sathorn Road will be ready by the end of 2025. The project, inspected by Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt on September 3, aims to improve pedestrian mobility and enhance the city’s walkability.
The 1.6 km walkway will link Lumpini MRT station to the Chong Nonsi Skywalk, serving office workers and nearby residents. It is designed to protect pedestrians from rain and sun, making travel more convenient in one of Bangkok’s busiest districts. Roofing and lighting are expected to be completed by September 2025, after which the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) will install underground power ducts and finalise sidewalk upgrades to meet safety and accessibility standards.
Plans include upgrading sidewalks, introducing underground utility systems, and adding facilities for the elderly and disabled. The walkway is expected to serve as a model for future projects aimed at building a more walkable, sustainable city.
