Thailand and Myanmar are in discussions regarding a framework for a new electricity purchase contract between the two countries in which the former will buy 10,000 MW of power from the latter. Thailand plans to purchase 1,000 MW from Myanmar’s My Tong hydropower project and 3,000 MW from another power plant at Dawei. The power purchase agreement will benefit the economic development projects of both countries, as demand for cost-efficient power generation rises in tandem with economic growth.
