The Ministry of Transport (MoT) of Thailand has announced plans to invest USD19 billion in rail infrastructure next year, including USD8.7 billion for six double-track railway projects covering 1,312 km. These routes aim to position Thailand as a key logistics hub between China and Southeast Asia (SEA). The projects, approved by the Budget Bureau, await review from the Finance Ministry and the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC), with final approval expected in January 2025.

The six routes include Pak Nam Pho to Den Chai (USD2.4 billion), Chira Junction to Ubon Ratchathani (USD1.3 billion), Hat Yai to Padang Besar (USD230 million), Chumphon to Surat Thani (USD890 million), Surat Thani to Hat Yai-Songkhla (USD1.9 billion), and Den Chai to Chiang Mai (USD2 billion). Additionally, the USD10 billion second phase of the high-speed Bangkok-Nong Khai line, spanning 357 km, is under review, with bidding anticipated in 2025. These developments are expected to significantly enhance Thailand’s rail connectivity and economic growth.
