Thailand’s Ministry of Transport and Communication is planning to revise the route planned for the regional HSR project linking Thailand with southern China, through Laos. According to the original plan, the Thai section of the route stretched from Nong Khai bordering Laos to Satun’s Pak Bara port, passing through Nakhon Ratchasima and Bangkok. However, the route will now connect Nong Khai with Laem Chabang port through Nakhon Ratchasima, without passing through Bangkok. The project involves building three tracks that will use a standard gauge of 1.435 metres. The State Railway of Thailand will study the feasibility of the project and ascertain whether conventional trains should be allowed to travel on the same track as the new high speed trains.
