Thailand plans to develop a new international commercial airport at an existing naval airbase outside Bangkok. The upcoming U-Tapao airport, which is expected to be commissioned by 2017, will handle 3 million passengers per year. The airport is about 140 km southeast of Bangkok and currently handles about 200,000 passengers per year.
