Thailand’s cabinet has approved a 50 billion baht ($1.48 billion) rooftop solar programme as part of the government’s energy transition policy. The initiative aims to help one million households install rooftop solar panels within a year, supporting consumers facing rising energy prices. The government also approved a reduction in biofuel taxes to support farmers, according to Lavaron Sangsnit, permanent secretary of the Finance Ministry.
In addition, the cabinet approved more than 20 billion baht in investment for smart grid development. The initiative is intended to enable consumers to sell surplus solar electricity to the government, supporting greater integration of distributed renewable energy into Thailand’s power system.
