The Thai junta has approved the development of deep-sea ports at Pak Bara and another one in Songkhla province. This will also involve the construction of a road and rail link between the two ports. The total estimated cost of the project stands at about 50 billion baht. The Ministry of Transport is currently undertaking a detailed assessment report and work is likely to begin in late 2016. The port on the Andaman Sea (Pak Bara) is expected to significantly reduce transit time between Asia and Europe.
