The Philippines-based Transpacific Broadband Group International (TBGI) has expressed interest in participating in the government’s third telco initiative. The company has taken a number of initiatives to support its bid, such as selling up to 40 per cent of the company to foreign investors in a private share sale, setting up a common tower company and tapping Chinese technology. TBGI is also planning to extend its congressional franchise (a legal instrument given by the Philippine Congress to a qualified proponent to construct, install, establish, operate  and maintain radio/television broadcasting stations), which is set to expire in 2023, for another 25 years.
