Takehiko Nakao assumed office as the Ninth President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in April 2013, after his election by ADB’s Board of Governors. Nakao succeeds Haruhiko Kuroda who resigned in March 2013 to take up the position of Governor of the Bank of Japan. Nakao will complete the unexpired term of Kuroda, which ends in November 2016.

Kuroda has extensive experience in international finance. He has taught International Finance as Visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo. He has also held senior positions in Japan’s Ministry of Finance. Kuroda has a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Tokyo and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.
