The first cable-stayed bridge in the country constructed by Daelim Industrial Company, namely, the Sungai Brunei Grand Bridge, was opened for traffic on October 14, 2017. It is a four-lane bridge spanning 712 metres and the length of its main span is 300 metres.

The Economic Research Institute for Asean and East Asia (ERIA), in collaboration with the Energy Research Institute Network (ERIN), is conducting a study to transform Temburong into a smart city that is self-sufficient in terms of its energy resources and other natural resources, and emits zero net carbon.

The project is an integral part of ERIN’s eco-town model project. Under Phase I of the project, the focus will be on the introduction of energy efficient technologies for buildings and road transport as well as smart grid technologies. Under Phase II, the capacity of power sources providing electricity to Temburong will be assessed. At present, the district is powered by diesel with a generation capacity of about 12 MW. However, demand, which is currently growing at the rate of 3 per cent per year, is expected to double in the coming years. Therefore, there is a need to manage this demand outlook in a more strategic and sustainable manner.
