Philippines-based mobile operator Sun Cellular has been recognised as Philippines’ Mobile Service Provider of the Year for 2012 by Frost & Sullivan’s Asia Pacific Best Practices awards. The operator was awarded for its consistent and robust growth in terms of market share, revenues, and subscriber acquisition rate. Its innovativeness in launching new services such as the Call and Text Unlimited service has played a key role in facilitating robust competition in the Philippines’ mobile market. This is the second consecutive year that the operator has received this award in recognition for its wireless service offerings in the region.
Frost & Sullivan undertakes in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research to identify outstanding industry achievements by companies in regional markets. Sun Cellular is a member of the PLDT Group; as of September 2012, its wireless subscriber base stood at over 16 million. During the first half of 2012, its registered net service revenues were PhP 10.2 billion (1 PhP [Philippine peso] = USD 0.02), compared to PhP 8.7 billion for the corresponding period in 2011, which constitutes an increase of 17 per cent.
