The Government of Australia has approved Sun Cable’s USD19 billion Australia-Asia PowerLink project, which involves building a 12,400-hectare solar farm in the Northern Territory, transmitting energy to Singapore.

This project will generate 6GW of electricity annually, with 4GW allocated to industrial customers in Darwin and 2GW sent to Singapore via over 4,000km of submarine cables. The solar farm, the largest in the world, will provide around 15 per cent of Singapore’s electricity needs. A final investment decision is expected in 2027, with electricity supply slated to begin by the early 2030s.
