Japan-based Sumitomo Corporation is keen to develop a coal-based thermal power plant in the central province of Khanh Hoa. The total capacity of the proposed plant is 1,320 MW and is estimated to cost 41.09 trillion dong. The plan is to develop the plant on a BOT basis with a concession period of 25 years. The commissioning of the plant is likely to take place in phases, with the first turbine expected to begin generating power in 2017.
