Sumitomo Electric Industries has completed a 27 km high-voltage subsea interconnector between Cebu and Bohol islands in the Philippines. The project involved laying a 230 kV AC submarine power cable with a capacity of 1,200 MW to address the increasing power supply-demand imbalance on Bohol Island, driven by rising tourism. It also enhances the overall reliability of the region’s power grid.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines commissioned the project, with Sumitomo responsible for design, manufacturing, and installation. Despite challenging deep-sea conditions, the work was completed on schedule.
