PT Medco Cahaya Geothermal (PT MCG) has secured approval from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) to conduct a feasibility study for the Blawan Ijen Geothermal Project in Indonesia. This is the first geothermal plant located in East Java.

The project will commence the exploitation phase, under which four production wells, two reinjection wells, and one make-up well will be drilled. Additionally, supporting infrastructure will also be developed for the renewable energy (RE) project, including access roads, well pads, and drilling water distribution lines.

PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara’s (PT PLN) supply business plan estimates that the Blawan Ijen site will have a total capacity of 110 MW and will be developed in two phases. The first phase will add 55 MW geothermal capacity by 2024 while phase two will develop 55 MW of RE when completed in 2026.

PT MCG is a joint venture (JV) company comprising PT Medco Power Indonesia and Ormat Technologies Incorporated.
