The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is to undertake a study for the second phase of extending the high-speed rail (HSR) project linking three major airports in Thailand. The link between Bangkok’s Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports and Rayong province’s U-Tapao Airport is already under construction. The SRT will explore the feasibility of expanding the rail line to the Trat province in the second phase. This will create a Rayong-Chanthaburi-Trat link that is expected to boost tourism and logistics in the provinces.

SRT will submit a THB100 million proposal to employ consultants and conduct a study for a public-private private (PPP) venture, as well as the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). The entire process is expected to take 12 months, with findings from the study being presented for consideration in 2024 and bidding in 2026.

The HSR project, which is scheduled for completion in 2026, is one of the major infrastructure projects of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) project.
