The construction of a sea bridge linking the mainland to Koh Samui has been rescheduled to begin in 2029, with completion targeted for 2033 in Thailand. Work was initially slated to commence in 2028.

Public consultations, focusing on the bridge’s proposed location, are set in Koh Samui, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Surat Thani from July 15 to 17 2024. This phase follows the designation of the bridge’s endpoints in Khanom district, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Taling Ngam subdistrict on Koh Samui.

The toll bridge is part of a 37 km infrastructure project, including a 25-km-long stretch over the Gulf of Thailand, aimed at enhancing connectivity between Don Sak in Surat Thani and Khanom. Managed by the Expressway Authority of Thailand, the development process includes three rounds of public meetings, concluding in October 2025.
