PT Barito Renewables Energy Tbk (BREN) has announced a series of geothermal capacity expansion and retrofit projects through its subsidiary PT Star Energy Geothermal. The initiatives focus on increasing output across existing brownfield sites, according to a disclosure filed with the Indonesian Stock Exchange.
The company aims to complete several projects within the next two years, including an 18.4 MW retrofit at Wayang Windu Units 1 and 2 by end-2025, a new 30 MW Wayang Windu Unit 3, a 40 MW Salak Unit 7, and a 7 MW retrofit at Darajat Unit 2 by 2026. Exploration drilling has also commenced at the Hamiding prospect in North Maluku, with an initial 50 MW development phase toward a total planned capacity of 300 MW.
Earlier in 2025, Star Energy expanded capacity at the Salak geothermal field by adding a 15.5 MW binary unit and completing a 7.7 MW retrofit of Units 4, 5, and 6. BREN has outlined a roadmap to reach 2.3 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, supported by assets such as the 78.75 MW Sidrap I wind power plant and additional greenfield developments.
