Vietnam’s Southern Electricity Distribution Corporation plans to invest nearly 4.5 trillion dong in power projects in 2013. The projects include a sea cable system from Ha Tien to Phu Quoc Island and power transmission networks in rural areas. The firm has signed an EPC contract with Italy’s Prysmian Powerlink S.r.l. to lay the 56 km long subsea cable. The 2.3 trillion dong project, which also includes the construction of a 7.6 km long transmission line and 110 kV substation, is scheduled to be completed in 2014. Meanwhile, the company plans to spend 1 trillion dong on the construction of power grids in the areas inhabited by the Khmer people in the Kien Giang, Soc Trang, and Tra Vinh provinces. Also, a German Development Bank-funded rural power distribution project (1 trillion dong) is expected to be commissioned in 2014.
