Dredging work on the second phase of the Soai Rap river deepening has begun. The objective of the dredging work on the 54 km section of the river is to create a shorter route for vessels coming from the sea to enter the Hiep Phuoc port area in Nha Be district. The project will enable Hiep Phuoc Port to receive larger ships with a loading capacity of 50,000–70,000 dead weight tonnage. The river will be dredged to 11.5 metres by a 142.8 metre long and 26.8-metre wide dredger that can dredge about 70,000 cubic metres of sand per day. Of the total investment of 2.8 trillion dong, 2.2 trillion dong will come from Belgian Official Development Assistance loans, with the remainder allocated from the city budget.
