SMRT Corporation Limited has launched its artificial intelligence (AI) based monitoring system, Overwatch, to improve rail reliability on the Circle Line (CCL) in Singapore. The system has been deployed at the Kim Chuan Depot to monitor rail systems in real time, leveraging both AI and video analysis to provide a live overview of the condition of the trains in operation. The system can also detect and predict anomalies beforehand.
Overwatch is expected to boost rail operation efficiency by helping operations staff circumvent issues and reduce response time and delays to commuters.
The monitoring system will be also deployed on the North-South Line and East-West Line (NSEWL) by the end of 2024.
