FLUENCE has commenced commercial operations of the first 20 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) out of the 470 MWh portfolio to be deployed for SMC Global Power Holdings Corporation (SMCGPH) in the Philippines.
The BESS is located in Negros Occidental and is the second grid-scale battery project to serve the national grid. The system will deliver ancillary services with a faster reaction time and accuracy as compared to thermal auxiliary service providers, such as hydropower, diesel, or natural gas production. Large-scale battery storage systems and other flexible, fast-responding resources can ensure the stability of regional grids across the Philippines.
