The Philippines-based operator Smart Communications, owned by incumbent Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), is planning to expand its 4G LTE network to all major cities by end-2014. Smart Communications intends to provide about 50 per cent of the population with 4G services by end-2014. It is also planning to expand 3G network coverage from 71 per cent to 100 per cent and increase its optical fibre network from 78,000 km to 90,000 km. Smart Communications will invest PhP 32 billion in increasing the footprint of its 3G and LTE networks in 2014.
