Smart Communications, a subsidiary of PLDT, has installed long-term evolution (LTE) microsites along the entire Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) in Philippines and its 11 stations that run between the City of the Manila and Pasig City to enable faster mobile data speeds for commuters. The services have been enabled by PLDT’s fiber infrastructure that covers 429,000 km (as of end-2020).
This project is a part of company’s ongoing expansion and modernisation of its LTE network. Smart Communications’s mobile network services are currently used by 96 per cent of the Philippines. This is a part of PLDT and Communications plan to invest between PHP88 billion and PHP92 billion in capital expenditures in 2021.
